Installation & Interface
The CertSavvy installation involved a download of the SavvyEngine demo and then an upgrade to the full version. This is done through a relatively easy process where you are prompted to enter your order and payment information. Once your receipt arrives via email, the software is ready to go. I downloaded and took the newest SavvyEngine test for the CCNA exam 640-607.
The interface is easy to use and intuitive, if not particularly engaging. It does the job and the navigation allows for different testing modes, display of answers, flagging questions, and many other features. The testing window can be resized to fit your preference and the font size can be changed from small to huge (useful on my tiny laptop screen). With each question a reference is provided so you know the test objective it covers as well as where to go to find more information on the subject.
The most unique feature of this exam was the router simulations. There are two types. In the first, you will be given a topology diagram with a number of tasks to perform. Your incorrect or correct command entries to each task are recorded as part of the exam. Alternately, you may be given a diagram where you are expected to drag and drop elements to their correct placement. Both of these are very effective learning tools and you must get each answer precisely correct in order to get the question as a whole correct.
Features
- Three question types: multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and drag-and-drop.
- Router simulations are included.
- Three testing modes: study, exam, and custom.
- The usual testing features such as randomizing of answers, the ability to mark questions, reviewing answers, category scoring, and explanations attached to each answer.
- Unlimited test question bank updates.
- Topics covered on the exam:
- Cisco Basics, IOS and Network Basics: 83 questions
- OSI Reference Model and Layered Communications: 87 questions
- Bridging/Switching: 31 questions
- LAN Design: 26 questions
- Network Protocols: 79 questions
- Routing: 50 questions
- Network Management: 28 questions
- WAN Protocols: 62 questions
- The CCNA test includes a total of 457 practice questions.
- Good online help and customer support.
Bottom Line
CertSavvy sells their SavvyEngine products for around $40 to $50. Considering what you get, this is a good value and I would highly recommend their products to anyone studying for a Cisco certification. You have access to constant updates to the tests and the installation and interface are good. The questions are close to the difficulty level of the exam the router simulations are a great way to train. Overall, this is a quality product at a great price.
